Franciscan Estate
Origins
Named for the Franciscan Friars who brought viticulture to California, Franciscan was founded in 1972 by two Napa Valley wine legends Justin Meyers and Raymond Duncan. Since our first vintage in 1973, Franciscan has paved new paths in California winemaking, including leading efforts to establish the Meritage Alliance, which gives a designation (Meritage = Merit and Heritage) to California wines made with the traditional Bordeaux blend of grapes.
Franciscan has a rich history rooted in traditional California winemaking but delivers ahead-of-its-time wine.
Wine Philosophy
Franciscan is known for our traditionally crafted wines with a modern taste. Our portfolio of wines is bold, smooth, and flavorful, reflecting our winemaking philosophy of letting the “the fruit speak for itself.”
Sourced from some of the finest vineyards in Napa and Monterey, Franciscan grapes lend remarkable
complexity and unmistakable character to every glass. From batch to bottle, Franciscan chases
perfection, and for over 50 years, has delivered lush, full-flavored wines with sustained innovation and
generosity of spirit.
