Lively aromas of lemon citrus, pineapple and orange blossom with hints of tropical fruit, caramelized honey and toasty vanilla. On the palate, this wine has an refined texture with a silky, smooth mouthfeel and medium acidity. Notes of Meyer lemon, golden apple and fresh cut pear, combined with delicate notes of toasty oak and creamy minerality, lead to an elegant long finish. The winter rainfall was slightly below average, but we were able to compensate with early spring irrigation to fill soil profiles before budbreak. Warm spring temperatures aided vine growth and they were able to reach max canopy height. Summer temperatures heated up and slowed down vine growth as vines transitioned into fruit development. Weather leading into harvest was relatively cool and uneventful, which allowed for gradual ripening of the fruit. It was another remarkable growing season in the Santa Lucia Highlands, resulting in wines with beautiful color, concentrated flavors, great structure and naturally balanced acidity. After being carefully picked and precisely sorted for quality, the fruit was destemmed, sent direct to press and fermented entirely in small French oak barrels. The wine was hand-stirred on its lees every three weeks for the 10 months it aged in barrel. When the wine was ready to be blended, our winemaker selected only the finest barrels that best express the aromas and flavors of the Santa Lucia Highlands

The 2021 vintage is being celebrated as exceptional though yields were down significantly (down 19% across New Zealand) due to some late-season frosts and overall cooler weather in the spring.

The Estancia 2021 California Chardonnay is sourced from premium vineyards throughout the Central Coast of California. Rich gold in color, this expressive Chardonnay opens with tropical aromas of pineapple and guava highlighted with toasted oak and caramel The palate is layered with hints of green apple and a touch of honey. This is a full-bodied wine with a lingering creaminess. Winemaking Notes We harvested the Chardonnay for the 2021 vintages in the early morning hours and brought the fruit into the winery at peak ripeness. After being destemmed and gently pressed, the juice was transferred to stainless steel tanks for the primary fermentation. Select lots were then chosen and racked off to a combination of French and American oak to undergo malolactic fermentation and aging. In the end, the combination of stainless steel aged lots and oak aged lots were blended to create a lovely Chardonnay that has the perfect balance of fruit and oak.

Vintage 2021 began with cool, occasionally wet conditions that persisted through spring. By summer, warm, sunny days and crisp, cool nights emerged, allowing grapes to develop layered flavors while maintaining region’s signature crisp structure. An early harvest brought bright, mature fruit into the cellar. Winemaking Notes The grapes were harvested at night in cool temperatures to preserve their vibrant fruit characteristics, then destemmed and pressed immediately with minimal skin contact into stainless steel tanks. A long, slow fermentation was carried out over three weeks at cool temperatures using various yeast strains to lend complexity, enhance fruit expression and maintain the classic Marlborough character. Each block was kept separate throughout the winemaking process, allowing different parcels to blend into Nobilo’s signature style.

While below average winter rainfall led to some light early spring irrigation, the 2022 growing season continued with favorable warm weather that aided canopy growth and even berry set. Steady temperatures ensured fruit was maturing slowly allowing for gradual ripening and extended hang times. A small heat spike in late September slightly sped up the harvest but fruit still came in with beautiful acidity. Harvested from certified sustainable vineyards, the fruit was hand-picked in the early morning, brought to the winery and destemmed. The wine was cold fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve the beautiful natural acidity of the grapes.
